Audience

From my understanding the rhetorical element of audience refers to who the author is writing for. In our class, each assignment targeted a new, increasingly specific audience. We conducted an audience analysis for every major assignment, considering factors like education level, culture, language, job responsibilities, hobbies, and stance on the topic. This helped me change and fit my content to meet the audience’s needs and knowledge.

By analyzing the audience, I ensured my content was understandable and my message was clear. For example, in my persuasive memo, I wrote, “The purpose of bringing this out as an issue , is that as spring teams or winter teams come to practice, simply put there is not enough space to house all the sports provided within The City College of New York. .” Understanding when and how to use specific information was also crucial. Switching between different audiences for various assignments taught me how audience differences affect writing content and purpose.
